Using the Wing Paddle — What We Have Learned After 6000 Miles in the Surfski

We can go ahead and get these things out of the way. Yes, Rod has a giant cartoon thumb (more on that later), and yes, the audio is up and down a bit (the GoPro audio lost its mind).

But now that you have those distractions out of the way…a couple of years ago, when we were first learning wing paddles and all things surfski, we posted a video talking about the settings we were using as beginners, and why we using those settings.

Fast forward a couple of years and over 6000 miles of bucket time, and we’ve changed a few things. In this video, Rod shares a few of the tips we’ve learned along the way. Hopefully, these tips will help others paddlers as they take up this amazing sport.

To sum it up:

  1. We have shortened our paddle lengths.
  2. We have downsized our paddles.
  3. We use a 0 degree feather.
  4. We use the wing paddle like it’s a wing, and not like it’s a canoe paddle.
