The Vega Surfski by Kai Bartlett is at home in the ocean but is fast in the flat water too. Barry’s favorite ocean activity is down winding and my Ares OC1 and Vega Surfski are excellent for chasing and riding open ocean swells.
In this video, Barry shares one of our favorite down wind runs starting at Ft. Fisher, North Carolina and finishes at the Carolina Beach Pier. Along the way he talks about his early experience with Vega Surfski. Specifically, he talks about the forward volume that makes for a dry ride and prevents the ski from bogging down or burying the nose when in the ocean bumps. You’ll also hear about the drain system (Venturi valve), the foot plate, the Velcro foot straps, the deep bucket cockpit and how well this boat surfs the ocean swells.
